Hello, let me introduce myself. My name is Lucille Baker and I live in central Illinois.

But I got ahead of myself.

Let me go back to my early years, where my love for sewing and creating began. At about age 3, I had already begun to 'hang out' in the sewing room…..my mother's sewing room, picking up straight pins that had fallen on the floor. By age 5 I had started using those pins to learn to pin pattern pieces and make my own doll clothes, all hand stitched. Learning to knit and crochet around age 8.

Then at age 9 I had progressed to the sewing machine, a Singer treadle machine. Entering middle school I was a proficient in my sewing.

As a young mother, I once again was hand sewing…. baby clothes this time. My husband bought me a new sewing machine when my third child was born and I continued my love for fabrics, creating their clothing and my own.

About 30 years ago a friend, while shopping for a prom dress for her daughter, recommended me when the owner of the bridal shop mentioned a need of someone to do alterations. I took that job and work a a few years altering formal wear and wedding gowns. And the rest, as they say, is history. As friends and co-workers learned of my expertise and love of sewing, especially formal wear, asked me to sew for them. So by word of mouth, so I started my own business doing alterations and making garments, and it has not stopped.

With the birth of my first great granddaughter, I learned that I love to quilt! Why didn't I realize before this that quilts are just puzzles by fabric? I LOVE puzzles! So my love of quilting sparked and has increased in recent years.

I do alterations, some as simple as hemming or reattaching a button to wedding gowns that just don't fit quite right. However, I do not do tailoring.

Quilting, memory bears or pillows, doll clothes, special projects like personalized, quilted Christmas stockings, embroidery, casual and formal wear…..all are done out of my sewing room.
